Thread vs. yarn tail attachment
I chose to cut the yarn tails on the inner ears short and weave them into the back of the work before attaching the inner ears to the ears with matching thread for a cleaner look. However, you can also use a yarn needle and the yarn tail to attach the inner ears. It is entirely up to you!
In terms of stitch markers,
Please keep in mind that the photos above show a fox, but the technique is the same for all of my patterns.
Aside from the one used to track the beginning and end of each round, the pattern instructs you to insert four different stitch markers in various locations.
As stitch markers, I recommend using three strands of yarn in three different colours: Two strands of colour 1 (blue) to mark the location of each eye, Two strands of colour 2 (pink) to mark the beginning and end of each round, and one long strand of colour 3 (green) to track the beginning and end of each round.
The following photos show how to mark a stitch while crocheting a round: Lay your marker strand of yarn over your working yarn and the stitch you'll be working into, then finish the stitch as usual.
With each round, you'll essentially be weaving the long strand of colour 3 through your work. On odd rounds, you'll lay the strand back to front, and on even rounds, you'll lay it front to back.
The benefit of using this technique is that you'll have the start of each round marked, making it much easier to find your place if you make a mistake. However, it is perfectly acceptable to use a standard safety pin-like marker to keep track of your rounds instead.
How to Make an Eye Indent
• Please keep in mind that while the video above depicts a unicorn, the technique is the same for all of my patterns.
Step 1: Make a strand of yarn about 18" long. Make a large, secure knot in one end of the yarn and thread the other end through your yarn needle.
Step 2: Insert your needle through the back opening of the head and sew between the two spots where your safety eyes will be placed (marked with your colour 1 stitch markers).
Step 3: Pull your strand of yarn taut to make indents.
Step 4: Tie a knot and tuck your yarn tail inside the head.
